From 1978-85, while teaching at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (Canada), Dr. William A. Gray and Marilynne Miles Gray developed mentoring programs and researched the factors leading to success. In 1986, they left academia and created TMI • The Mentoring Institute Inc. to develop customized mentoring programs and products as a full-time passion, because they knew how beneficial a thoughtfully-planned and well-implemented program is to participants and their organizations.

In 2000, TMI became Corporate Mentoring Solutions Inc. (CMSI) to reflect our emphasis on providing a wide variety of new Mentoring Solutions®. Such as our web-based Mentoring Management System®, whose functions are based on our proven paper products, on our practical know-how gained from developing over 150 different mentoring programs, and on feedback from clients.
